Privacy Policy

When registering or sending personal data to TeachVid, the user authorizes the processing of their personal data according to the conditions set out in the policy below.

About the company

TeachVid is an educational web service provided by Lapworth Technologies CB. Our details are as follows:

Company name: Lapworth Technologies CB (Spanish tax number: E42616896)
Address: Calle Peñíscola 5, 03139 Elche, Alicante, SPAIN.
Email: info@teachvid.com

At TeachVid we understand the importance of privacy and the protection of our users' data. For this reason, we have taken the appropriate measures to protect any personal information that may be collected from our users.

What information do we collect about you and how?

TeachVid is bound by the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

You agree that we are entitled to obtain, use and process the information you provide to us to enable us to discharge the Service as described in our Terms and Conditions.

Cookies

TeachVid stores small files known as cookies on your device. These fall into four categories: (i) non essential cookies which allow us to notify you of new features periodically or to provide you with help and tutorials; (ii) Google analytics cookies which allow us to track usage of TeachVid resources and give us an idea of how many people are using TeachVid and which resources they are accessing; (iii) YouTube cookies which are set up and used in accordance with YouTube's own privacy policy, and with which we have zero interaction (these cookies are the result of our site embedding content from YouTube); (iv) our own cookies which are essential to the proper running of the site.

You may disable cookies on TeachVid, but if you do so, the TeachVid website will not work properly.

Analytics   (how visitors use our website)

We use Google Analytics to store information about how visitors use our website so that we may make improvements and give visitors a better user experience.

Google Analytics is a third-party information storage system that records information about the pages you visit, the length of time you were on specific pages and the website in general, how you arrived at the site and what you clicked on when you were there. These cookies do not store any personal information about you eg name, address etc and we do not share the data. You can view their privacy policy here.

YouTube   (the implications of embedded YouTube content on TeachVid)

The TeachVid service relies on embedded video content provided by YouTube. Our service allows us to interact with YouTube's embedded video player (to display, play, pause and stop videos etc). YouTube may track users on TeachVid in the same way as if those users were accessing YouTube videos directly on YouTube or on any other site containing YouTube content. TeachVid implements the "no cookies" version of the YouTube video player, and this should mean that cookie use and tracking are kept to a minimum. TeachVid has no control over this tracking and has zero access to any tracking data stored by YouTube. You can view YouTube's privacy policy here.

IP addresses

An IP or Internet Protocol Address is a unique numerical address assigned to a computer as it logs on to the internet. TeachVid does not log your IP address when you visit our site, but Google Analytics uses IP information to track how many visitors we have from particular regions, and YouTube may track IP addresses in line with its own privacy policies.

Advertising

There is no third-party advertising implemented by TeachVid itself. However, YouTube videos will display advertising over video content in line with YouTube's own advertising and privacy policies. TeachVid has no control over any advertising displayed over YouTube video content.

How do we use your data and why?

TeachVid stores the following personal information as required to set up user accounts:

  • All registered users: (i) we use the user's email address to identify them within our system and to communicate with them; (ii) we ask users to fill in a first and last name to allow us to make reference to them in any correspondence; (iii) we store the user's password in encrypted form to which our employees do not have access; (iv) (optional) the user's country of residence.
  • School level users (i.e. those registering and subscribing on behalf of multiple teachers and/or premium students as a school subscription): (i) school name; (ii) school postal or zip code; (iii) country where school is located.

Username (email address) and Password data is required to keep your user profile active on our platform, allowing you to interact with and use the different tools that we put at your disposal as a registered user. Email addresses are required for the verification of some user actions, such as resetting passwords etc.

Email addresses are also used to contact you via email, to provide help (if we see an issue with your resources), to inform you of new features which may be of interest to you, and to advise you of the imminent expiry or renewal of your subscription.

If you have completed a contact form in order to send us comments, suggestions or proposals, this data will be used only to respond to your request.

Resources that you upload to TeachVid as Public resources may be accessed and re-used by other TeachVid users, according to our terms and conditions. You should therefore ensure that your resources do not contain any sensitive or personal information.

Students need to be registered and logged in to TeachVid in order for their activity or assignment progress to be stored. Student tracking data relates only to the completion of activities or assignments.

We do not share any of the data that we have collected about you with any third parties. (Unless explicitly required to do so by law.)

Security precautions

All transactions are processed through a gateway provider (Braintree) and are not stored or processed on our servers. We keep no data whatsoever related to payment.

All data that we keep is stored on secure Google Cloud Platform servers located in various locations worldwide and under specific security measures that aim to prevent unauthorized access or leakage of information. Data is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems and who are required to keep the information confidential.

TeachVid uses a secure, encrypted (https) connection. (When you are on a secure page or site, such as TeachVid, this is indicated by a lock icon in many browsers.)

Where we have given (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of TeachVid, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.

Any personal data we collect will be treated confidentially. Furthermore, a risk analysis and an impact evaluation have been carried out to ensure that we protect the information of our users in order to prevent their access, manipulation or improper disposal.

Profiling

We do not collect or use any data for the purpose of creating a profile of you as a user.

How long do we hold your data for?

The data provided by users when registering with TeachVid, as well as all Teacher-generated resources, class data, student lists, etc. are stored on our systems indefinitely. Teachers can delete their own resources and their class lists. You may ask for all of your data to be deleted by sending a request by email.

Access to your data: Correction, deletion, etc.

By using TeachVid you implicitly give consent for us to store the data detailed in this policy in order for us to provide our Service (as described in our Terms & conditions). You can withdraw your consent at any time or request the deletion of all data stored about you by contacting us by email. If you request the deletion of all data, we will proceed to delete your profile and delete all your personal data. (If you make this request and you still have a valid subscription, this action will cause your subscription to end.)

Teachers may delete much of the information stored about them (resources, class lists, etc.) for themselves as part of our Service.

You may ask for all of your data to be deleted by sending a request by email. Please contact our Data Protection Officer (Martin Lapworth) at the e-mail address: martin@teachvid.com

Other websites

TeachVid sometimes contains links to other websites. This privacy policy only applies to the TeachVid website, so when you link to other websites you should read their own privacy policies.

Use of minors' data

Our subscription services are aimed at (i) teachers who wish to create resources for their students, and (ii) students wishing to use our services to help them learn a foreign language. We do not envisage anyone under 16 years of age paying for TeachVid (premium student / teacher) subscriptions, although schools may purchase premium student subscriptions for their students under the age of 16, and schools and teachers may require students below the age of 16 to register for free access to TeachVid so that they can participate in assignments set by them. We do not envisage that the TeachVid service will be offered directly to children under the age of 16, as in all cases we expect that student involvement with TeachVid will be the result of a request by the student's school or teacher. If we detect a teacher profile below the age of 16, the user could be suspended or be requested to prove their age to continue using the service.

Complaints

If you feel that your personal data has been processed in a way that does not meet the GDPR, you have a specific right to lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority. The supervisory authority will then tell you of the progress and outcome of your complaint.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

We keep our privacy policy under regular review and we will place any updates on this web page. This privacy policy was last updated on 25th January 2024.
